CT 156 is an L-shaped route in New London County. It begins at Norwich-Salem Road (CT 82) in Hamburg and runs south through Lyme to Old Lyme, where there is an interchange with the Connecticut Turnpike (I-95). It continues south for another couple of miles to the shoreline and then curves to the east. It runs east along the shoreline to end at Boston Post Road (US 1) in Waterford, just west of New London. While CT 156 is designated an east/west route, the section between Hamburg and Old Lyme actually runs north and south.
