NY 46 is an north/south route running through the area west of Utica. It begins at NY 12B in Hamilton and runs north to Oneida. It crosses the New York Thruway (I-90) but has no interchange. North of the Thruway, it curves to the east and joins NY 49. The two routes are multiplexed along Rome-New London Road and Erie Boulevard West to Rome, where they split. NY 46 follows Black River Boulevard north through Rome. It continues north to Boonville, where it ends at NY 12D a few blocks from its southern terminus at NY 12.
