US 40 is a major east/west route running most of the way across the country from Park City, Utah, to Atlantic City, New Jersey. The section in Delaware is very short, running parallel to and just south of the Delaware Turnpike (I-95). It enters the state from Maryland as a four-lane divided highway called Pulaski Highway. It runs east to New Castle, where it merges into Dupont Parkway (US 13). The two routes are multiplexed along Dupont Parkway to its interchange with I-295. There, US 40 splits off and follows I-295, crossing the Delaware Memorial Bridge into New Jersey.
