DE 279 is a short extension of MD 279 into Delaware. The full length is a four-lane divided highway known as Elkton Road. It begins at the state line and runs northeast for about a mile to a traffic light at Christina Parkway (DE 4/DE 896). This is the western terminus of DE 4, but DE 896 turns northeast onto Elkton Road, taking it over. DE 279 ends at this point.
