NJ 179 is a local alternative to the freeway section of US 202 near the border with Pennsylvania. PA 179 becomes NJ 179 where it crosses the state line on a bridge over the Delaware River. NJ 179 runs east along Bridge Street through Lambertville and then turns to the northeast. It is known as the Thomas Paine Highway and eventually changes names to become Old York Road. At US 202 in East Amwell, NJ 179 ends and Old York Road becomes CR 514.
