It runs north, parallel to I-295 through the southern part of the state near Philadelphia. In this area, it has the unsigned designation of NJ 700; no route number is posted. At exit 6 in Mansfield, it merges with I-95, a turnpike extension that connects to the Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-276). North of this point, the turnpike is designated I-95.
