NJ 19 is a short expressway from Clifton to Paterson. It runs straight north from the point where the Garden State Parkway (NJ 444) curves to the northeast, providing a more direct route to the Bergen-Passaic Expressway (I-80) west and the downtown area of Paterson. NJ 19 begins at Broad Street (CR 509) just south of its interchange with US 46. The two routes are multiplexed through the interchange and then split. Immediately thereafter, the ramp from the parkway merges into NJ 19. It continues north to an interchange with the Bergen-Passaic Expressway (I-80). Then, it becomes a surface road in Paterson for a couple of blocks before ending at Main Street (CR 509).
