Washington Avenue begins at Peninsula Boulevard (CR 2) in Hempstead. The section in Hempstead is locally known as Washington Street. There is a traffic light at Front Street (NY 102/CR 106). Turn right to go east or left to go west.

Washington Avenue ends at a traffic light at Old Country Road (CR 25). Turn right to go east. To go west, turn left one block before the traffic light onto Court House Drive and then right onto County Seat Drive. CR 7A continues straight ahead as Roslyn Road.

After crossing Old Country Road (CR 25), Washington Avenue becomes Roslyn Road. It passes under the Long Island Railroad.

There is an interchange with Northern Parkway. Roslyn Road then intersects the service roads of the Long Island Expressway (I-495). There are signs for the expressway right at the entrances to the parkway.

CR 7A ends here at this traffic light. Turn left to stay on Old Northern Boulevard, which runs west from here to Northern Boulevard (NY 25A) as an unnumbered county road. West Shore Road (CR 15) is straight ahead.
