Northbound Views
1 Avenue begins at Houston Street and runs north through Manhattan. There are oversized street name signs at most blocks, including East 14 Street and East 23 Street. There is a bus lane on the right. Bellevue Hospital Center and NYU Langone Medical Center are on the right along this stretch.

1 Avenue runs north through Midtown. There is an entrance to the Midtown Tunnel (I-495) on the left.

There is a tunnel that can be used be used to bypass the next half mile of 1 Avenue. Use the center lanes to enter the tunnel. Either bear right or bear left to continue north along 1 Avenue without using the tunnel. Bear left to go west on East 42 Street. Bear right for access to the FDR Drive.
