Van Dam Street is a short north/south route in Queens. It begins at Greenpoint Avenue just east of the bridge over Newtown Creek from Brooklyn and runs north. It has a partial interchange with the Long Island Expressway (I-495) at its last westbound exit in Queens before the Midtown Tunnel. After less than a mile, it reaches Queens Boulevard (NY 25). It continues north as a local street for one additional block to end at Skillman Avenue. Motorists travelling west on the Long Island Expressway (I-495) who wish to access the Queensboro Bridge (NY 25) will generally take it to exit 15 for Van Dam Street and follow it north to either Thomson Avenue for the upper level of the bridge or Queens Boulevard (NY 25) for the lower level.
