Vernon Boulevard begins at Borden Avenue in Long Island City. Immediately, the roadway splits. Bear right for Jackson Avenue, which provides access to the Midtown Tunnel (I-495) and NY 25A.

Vernon Boulevard runs north as a two-lane divided road. After a couple of blocks, the median ends and the lanes come together. There is a traffic light with an oversized street name sign at 50 Avenue.

Vernon Boulevard runs north through Long Island City as a two-lane undivided road. There are traffic lights with oversized street name signs at 49 Avenue, 48 Avenue, and 47 Avenue.
