Eastbound Views
West 79 Street begins at the Henry Hudson Parkway (NY 9A) and runs east across the Upper West Side. There are oversized street name signs at Riverside Drive, West End Avenue, Broadway, and Amsterdam Avenue.

West 79 Street ends at Columbus Avenue, which is a southbound one-way street. The American Museum of Natural History is straight ahead. Access to the transverse road leading to the East Side is provided through West 81 Street, which is two blocks of north of here. Motorists wishing to continue across Manhattan beyond this point must turn left one block earlier at Amsterdam Avenue and travel two blocks north to West 81 Street.

West 81 Street is a two-way street for one block between Columbus Avenue and Central Park West. At the traffic light, continue straight ahead at the traffic light for the transverse road across Central Park to the East Side.

The transverse road is a super-2, a two-lane undivided limited-access highway, crossing Central Park. There are three overpasses, as well as a single traffic light in the middle of the park.

East 79 Street runs east across the Upper East Side as a four-lane undivided road. There are oversized street name signs at Madison Avenue, Park Avenue, Lexington Avenue, 3 Avenue, 2 Avenue, 1 Avenue, and York Avenue.

East 79 Street ends here. There is a traffic light with an oversized street name sign at East End Avenue. Continue straight ahead for the FDR Drive south.
