Purchase Street begins at US 1 in Rye and runs north as a two-lane undivided road. There are a couple of stop signs at and traffic light. There is no yellow line down the middle, which is unusual for a state route.

Purchase Street passes under the New Haven Line of the Metro-North Railroad and the New England Thruway (I-95). There is a train station but no highway interchange.

Purchase Street is interrupted at the Cross Westchester Expressway (I-287). All vehicles must bear right to merge into Westchester Avenue, the service road of the expressway, which is designated CR 62 west of here.

There is a traffic light as Westchester Avenue splits off from the Cross Westchester Expressway (I-287) and the two sides join back together to form a single road. Turn left onto the westbound side of Westchester Avenue to continue north on NY 120. NY 120A begins straight ahead.
