The Quickway begins at the New York Thruway (I-87) in Harriman. There is a toll for motorists coming off the Thruway. Those coming from the north pay a toll depending on how far they have travelled on the Thruway, while those coming from the south are charged a fixed toll. Exit 131 is for Averell Avenue (NY 17) south, US 6 east, and NY 32 north. The Quickway continues straight ahead as NY 17. After a short distance, it will be multiplexed with US 6. This short section currently has no signed designation, but it will become part of I-86 once the Quickway is upgraded to interstate standards. It has a reference route number of 984C.

The ramp for exit 131 at the beginning of the Quickway leads to a traffic light. Turn left for Averell Avenue (NY 17) south and the Long Mountain Parkway (US 6) east. Turn right for NY 32 north and Nininger Road (CR 64).

These photographs show the westernmost section of the Quickway heading west. In this direction, the highway splits after the toll. Bear left to go north on the New York Thruway (I-87) or bear right to go south.
