As part of the construction project to add a third track to the Main Line of the Long Island Rail Road, the grade crossing on Covert Avenue was replaced with an overpass. While this work was in progress, Covert Avenue was closed at the crossing. Temporary orange signs on Jericho Turnpike instructed motorists to detour through either Tulip Avenue or New Hyde Park Road (CR 5B).

These signs used to indicate that the speed limit on Jericho Turnpike was 55 MPH. It has since been lowered to 50 MPH.
