Carleton Avenue is a north/south route running parallel to and east of Islip Avenue (NY 111). It begins at Montauk Highway (NY 27A) in East Islip and runs north until Suffolk Avenue (CR 100) in Central Islip. There, it changes names to become Wheeler Road and runs diagonally to the northwest, merging with Joshua's Path (NY 111) just south of the Long Island Expressway (I-495) in Hauppauge.
