US 522 is a major north/south route extending from Powhatan, Virginia, to Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania. It has a relatively short section in West Virginia, passing through the Eastern Panhandle as it makes its way from Virginia to Maryland, where it has an even shorter section before crossing into Pennsylvania. The one major town along US 522 in West Virginia is Berkeley Springs.

Construction work is currently in progress to build a bypass of US 522 around Berkeley Springs. The southern section of the bypass is currently open to traffic, while the northern section is still in progress.
