WV 42 is multiplexed with WV 93 as Union Highway, a two-lane undivided road. It works its way up the mountain, going around numerous switchbacks.

The two routes split here. Turn left onto Power Station Highway to stay on WV 93 and for access to Corridor H (US 48). Continue straight ahead on Union Highway to stay on WV 42.
