West 57 Street begins at 12 Avenue (NY 9A) and runs east as a four-lane undivided road. There are oversized street name signs at 11 Avenue, 10 Avenue, 9 Avenue, and 8 Avenue. These streets all change names two blocks north of here to become West End Avenue, Amsterdam Avenue, Columbus Avenue, and Central Park West, respectively.

There is a traffic light with an oversized street name sign at Broadway, which is a southbound one-way street here and becomes a pedestrian mall a few blocks to the south at West 47 Street.

West 57 Street continues to the east. Central Park begins two blocks north of here. There are oversized street name signs at 7 Avenue and 6 Avenue. Both avenues end just north of here at the park. East of 6 Avenue, there is a traffic light with a crosswalk in the middle of the block so that pedestrians can cross without having to walk all the way to the corner.
