East 57 Street runs west as a four-lane undivided road. There are oversized street name signs at 2 Avenue, 3 Avenue, Lexington Avenue, Park Avenue, and Madison Avenue.

East 57 Street intersects 5 Avenue at a traffic light with an oversized street name sign. East 57 Street changes names here to become West 57 Street.

West 57 Street runs west as a four-lane undivided road. Central Park begins two blocks north of here. There are oversized street name signs at 6 Avenue and 7 Avenue. Both avenues end just north of here at the park. East of 6 Avenue, there is a traffic light with a crosswalk in the middle of the block so that pedestrians can cross without having to walk all the way to the corner.

West 57 Street intersects Broadway at a traffic light with an oversized street name sign. Broadway is a southbound one-way street here, and it becomes a pedestrian mall a few blocks south of here at West 47 Street. To go north on Broadway, continue straight ahead to 8 Avenue and then travel north two blocks to Columbus Circle, where Broadway becomes a two-way street.

West 57 Street intersects 8 Avenue at a traffic light with an oversized street name sign. Two blocks north of here, 8 Avenue changes names at Columbus Circle to become Central Park West.

West 57 Street continues west with the Hudson River visible in the distance. There are oversized street name signs at 9 Avenue, 10 Avenue, and 11 Avenue. These street change names two blocks north of here to become Columbus Avenue, Amsterdam Avenue, and West End Avenue, respectively.

West 57 Street ends at 12 Avenue (NY 9A), which becomes the Henry Hudson Parkway just north of here. Turn right to go north on the parkway. There is also a ramp providing access to West 59 Street and 12 Avenue (NY 9A) south.
