Here, NJ 7 is known as Belleville Turnpike. The median ends, and the road narrows down to two lanes. Belleville Turnpike runs west across the swamp. There are some small bridges. It passes under both spurs of the New Jersey Turnpike (I-95), but there is no interchange.

There is a traffic light at Schuyler Avenue. Turn right here to go north on CR 507. Southbound CR 507 is multiplexed with NJ 7 along Belleville Turnpike straight ahead.

Welcome to the Town of Belleville! There is an overpass at the McCarter Highway (NJ 21), but there is no entrance here.

Belleville Turnpike changes names to become Rutgers Street. This section is part of CR 506 and is not officially considered to be part of NJ 7, although it is signed as such.

There is a traffic light at Washington Avenue. Turn right to stay on NJ 7. The section of Washington Avenue for a few blocks to the left is also officially designated as part of NJ 7, explaining the sign on the traffic light, even though motorists following NJ 7 don't travel on it. Yes, it's confusing. Go figure, it's New Jersey.

Washington Avenue runs north through Belleville and Nutley. There are traffic lights at Holmes Street, Joralemon Street, Division Avenue, Little Street, Overlook Avenue, East Overlook Avenue, Greylock Parkway, Greylock Avenue, Hancox Avenue, Centre Street (CR 648), Park Avenue (CR 646), Grant Avenue, and Nutley Avenue.
